In January 2026, CFCL achieved a score of 143.5 in its B Corp (Benefit Corporation) recertification, surpassing the 128 points obtained at its initial certification in 2022. As of February 2026, this represents the highest score among Japanese companies.
Certified by the U.S.-based nonprofit B Lab™, B Corp status is awarded to companies that meet rigorous standards across social and environmental performance, transparency, and accountability. The assessment evaluates a company’s entire operations across five impact areas: Environment, Community, Workers, Governance, and Customers. Recertification is required every three years, with continuous improvement as a prerequisite.
During this recertification cycle, conducted under more detailed and stringent criteria reflecting CFCL’s business growth, the company responded to 313 assessment items and improved its score by 15.5 points.
CFCL’s knit-focused Impact Business Model (IBM)—encompassing its business structure, strategic framework, product design, and the adoption of recycled and certified materials—had already been recognized at the time of initial certification. In this cycle, the expansion and deeper implementation of these initiatives contributed to the increased score.
The most significant improvement was recorded in the Environment category (+10.3). Life Cycle Assessments (LCA), conducted for only one style at the time of initial certification, were expanded to approximately 81% of all styles (148 of 183 styles, as of January 2025). The advancement of a closed-loop-oriented business model, including expanded use of recycled polyester and secondary circulation services, also supported this result.
In the Workers category (+6.6), strengthened organizational foundations in line with company growth were acknowledged, particularly the formalization of performance evaluation criteria and the introduction of a stock option program.
CFCL views this achievement as a reflection of its consistent commitment since its founding. Looking ahead, the B Corp assessment framework itself will be revised in the next cycle, and CFCL will continue working toward alignment with the new standards across all impact areas. Progress will be reported through the CFCL Consciousness Report.
