Bamboo is split into fine strips, aligned to a uniform width, and interwoven to build a three-dimensional form. This process parallels CFCL’s approach to knitwear, where threads are knitted to shape garments. While the materials differ, both are techniques that realize form and function simultaneously through the act of weaving.
The bag, produced exclusively for CFCL in Phanat Nikhom, Chonburi, is rooted in a region known for bamboo craftsmanship for over 200 years. Only a limited number of artisans are able to achieve this level of precision, where balanced weaves and curved forms emerge solely from the properties of the material and the accuracy of handwork. From the opening to the handles, every detail is meticulously woven, and the accumulation of precision appears as a resolved, sculptural form.
CFCL has explored knitwear as a tool for contemporary life, centered on 3D computer-aided knitting. Even as materials and methods differ, the underlying approach to weaving remains shared. By connecting techniques across different disciplines, CFCL continues to explore new possibilities for making.
