On Monday, September 26th, CFCL presented its first physical presentation at the Toguna space in Palais de Tokyo, a museum in the 16th arrondissement of Paris, known as the central hub of Paris Fashion Week. The theme of the VOL.5 collection, Spring / Summer 2023, is “Knit-ware: Blueprint”. The collection rethinks what kind of elegant knitwear is needed in today’s society, where the silhouettes and styles that appeared in science fiction, that once predicted and imagined the future, are now approaching reality from a perspective that extends to outer space.
This presentation, staged by artist Nile Koetting as the scenographer (stage designer), humorously expresses a journey to “PLAnet,” a blue galaxy covered with “resources” with potential.

Science fiction has sometimes predicted the future. This is not merely coincidence, but because science fiction is an idea of the future shaped by human beings according to their astute perception and sense of aesthetic. Tight suits that seem all about functionality or clothing with unconventional silhouettes that suggest a whole new kind of fashion: these futuristic styles are perhaps now becoming reality.
To create clothing for contemporary life is to reinterpret fashion. Making insights into industry and lifestyle is inevitably also the act of drawing up a vision of the future. As if looking down at our planet from space. As if crisscrossing between science and fantasy. Knit-ware is clothing created by CFCL in response to the needs of life.
DF HIGH GAUGE
Using recycled polyester processed for better stretch, the DF HIGH GAUGE is created with double knitting similar to neoprene. It harnesses the edges in a way only programming-aided knitwear can, forming a design that is a single, light piece of material without cuffs or facings. The jacket features rib stitches along the back that gives shape to the waist, while the pants are decorated with knitted crease lines that enhance their appearances. Recycled polyester sourced from plastic (PET) drink bottles account for 96% of the materials. A single jacket uses approximately 40 500 ml (17fl oz) bottles, a blouson around 49 bottles, a pair of pants about 39 bottles, and a coat around 60 bottles.

POTTERY LUCENT
POTTERY is an iconic CFCL series, ongoing from the brand's very first collection. This season pairs recycled polyester with semi-transparent nylon yarn to create a cool, translucent dress with a futuristic look. The dress is 3D-printed from programmed data. Seamless and stretchy, it can fit a wide range of body shapes. And since the manufacturing process involves no cutting, waste is kept to an absolute minimum. A life cycle assessment conducted on the right dress recommended that CFCL reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 5.10 kg-CO2e per piece.

FAÇADE LUCENT
Featuring the most complex texture among the lineup in our new collection, the FACADE series takes inspiration from geometric architecture: the neat rows of windows on skyscrapers and modernist buildings, the evenly placed solar panels on a space station. The series employs tubular stitching with recycled polyester on the front and semi-transparent nylon yarn behind. Washing the items in hot water after they are made, the knitted fabric curls as the yarn dissolves, creating a beam-like design that evokes architecture. Both the vertical rib stitches and the horizontal curls are optimized by computer programming, forming knitwear items that are soft yet firm.

All the shoes in our new collection are made in collaboration with the Hyogo-based ASICS. Launched through an initiative with Japanʼs Ministry of the Environment, the project builds on ASICSʼs cutting-edge technology. We designed it based on GELLYTE™ III CM 1.95, the worldʼs lowest carbon footprint sneaker as measured in terms of the life cycle of materials from procurement to manufacturing, transportation, use, and disposal. Through using materials with a low carbon footprint and technology that minimizes CO2 emissions, and rebuilding supply chains from the bottom up, ASICS was able to reduce greenhouse gas emissions down to the titular 1.95 kg-CO2e per pair of shoes over their life cycle‒‒all without affecting the quality of experience when wearing the sneakers, as refined by ASICS ever since it was founded via its dedicated R&D efforts. The the GEL-LYTE™ III CM 1.95 is scheduled to go on sale from June 2023.
