“The word ware is used to describe an object which holds or contains something, such as pottery, cutlery or even data. For Clothing for Contemporary Life, ‘Knit-ware’ means that clothes have the elegance of pottery and the functionality of ware.”
—Yusuke Takahashi
CFCL coined the neologism from the homonymous “knitwear.” The word “ware,” of course, refers to vessels such as pots, plates, and other articles used as tableware, as well as the receptors of data. It expresses the creation of a brand in pursuit of modes of clothing as articles that envelop and contain the bodies of people living modern lives, and especially women taking an active role in society. This notion is at the heart of all of CFCL’s designs, from its debut line to its most recent collections.
